Who is the true God?

On Sunday 1st August 2010, as we the people of God gathered together to worship and fellowship, it is our custom to also make time to hear a word. One of the members brought to our attention the following passage of scripture.

“For ask now of the days past which were before you, since the day that God created man on the earth, and from the one end of the heavens to the other end of the heavens, whether there has been a thing as great as this, or has anything like it been heard. Has a people heard the voice of God speaking from the midst of the fire, as you have heard, and lived? Or has God gone forth to take to Himself a nation from the midst of a nation, by trials, by signs, and by wonders, and by war, and by a mighty hand, and by a stretched out arm, and by great terrors, according to all that Jehovah your God did for you in Egypt before your eyes? To you it was revealed, so that you might know that Jehovah is God, and no one else besides Him. He made you hear His voice out of the heavens, that He might discipline you; and He made you to see His great fire on earth; and you heard His Word from the midst of the fire. And because He loved your fathers, and chose their seed after them, and brought you out with His presence, with His great power, out of Egypt, in order to drive out nations greater and mightier than you from before you, to bring you in, to give their land for an inheritance, as it is this day; know today, and turn back your heart to it, that Jehovah, He is God in the heavens above and on the earth beneath; there is no other.
(Deu 4:32-39)

The challenge: To all peoples, and nations, to bring forth evidence of the manifestation of the living God, in their midst. In India, people claim all kind of things about what “their god” has done. But has anything been done, of the likes of what the true and living God did, in the history of the people of Israel, and the world at large? Also God wanted his chosen people (and consequently all peoples of the earth) to know that He, Jehovah, is God, and there is no one else besides Him. That blessed a lot of us. For others it was something new and unheard of. Something to really seek out and think about. We should know whom we believe. There is no place for blind faith.

It was also pointed out that though God spoke from the midst of the fire, He is not worshiped as fire. Fire is not to be worshiped as God! That is just what God used to get the attention of the people. The main thing is what he said, and the whole event of His manifestation.

We did show the Lord’s death till he comes, by partaking of the bread and the cup. Jesus Christ came in the flesh, and died and rose again. If anyone believes, he will he saved.
